Holiday Baked Ham! Plus 4 glaze options: Strawberry Sriracha, Peach Jalapeno, Mango Tequila or Hard Cider Bourbon Glaze!

Ham has been the classic main dish at just about every family Easter and Christmas Dinner I can remember.  It honestly wasn’t ever my favorite..but I found a way to really enjoy it by changing things up a little and coming up with some unique and delicious glaze recipes! SO, Instead of the traditional cloves, pineapple rings and maraschino cherries, how about we jazz up that ham with some fun new flavors!  With four to choose from you will not be hard pressed to find one you will love.  Each glaze works with whichever ham and cooking method you choose!

Uncured/Uncooked Ham:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Place 1-12lb bone-in, un-cured/uncooked ham in a large roasting pan and add to the pan around 1 inch of water, cider, or 100% fruit juice.  Pour half of the glaze of your choice over the top of the ham.  Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil or oven safe lid.  Place into oven and bake for 4 ½ - 5 hours (about 22 minutes per pound) or until the internal temperature has reached 160 degrees. Remove from oven, top with remaining glaze and allow to sit for 20 minutes before slicing and serving.

Cured/Precooked Ham:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Place 1-12lb bone-in, cured/cooked ham in a large roasting pan and add to the pan around 1 inch of water, cider, or 100% fruit juice.  Rub half of the glaze of your choice over the top of the ham.  Place the uncovered roasting pan into the oven and bake for 2 hours, brushing the ham every 20 minutes with the pan juice.  Remove ham from oven, turn the heat to 400 degrees and top with the remaining glaze.  Return the pan to the oven and cook until the glaze begins to bubble and turn golden.  Remove from oven and allow to sit for 20 minutes before serving and slicing.

4 Glaze Options:

  • Strawberry Sriracha glaze:  In a medium sized saucepan over medium high heat, combine 16oz fresh or frozen strawberries, ½ cup honey, 3 tbsp sriracha and ¼ tsp sea salt.  Bring to a gentle boil and encourage the strawberries to break down by using a potato masher.  Allow to cook and reduce for 8 minutes.  Remove from heat and allow to cool before using on your ham.

  • Peach Jalapeno:  In a medium sized saucepan over medium high heat, combine 16oz fresh or frozen peaches, ½ cup honey, 1 large jalapeno minced and ¼ tsp sea salt.  Bring to gentle boil, once the peaches begin to break down and soften use an immersion blender to puree and combine the ingredients.  Allow to cook and reduce for 8-10 minutes.  Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before using on your ham.

  • Mango Tequila Glaze:  In a medium sized saucepan over medium high heat, combine 16oz fresh or frozen mangoes, ½ cup honey, 3 tbsp tequila, 1 tbsp lime zest, ¼-⅛ tsp cayenne pepper and ¼ tsp sea salt.  Bring to gentle boil, once the mangoes begin to break down and soften use an immersion blender to puree and combine the ingredients.  Allow to cook and reduce for 8-10 minutes.  Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before using on your ham.

  • Hard Cider Bourbon Glaze:  In a large saucepan over medium high heat, whisk together 4-16oz bottles of hard cider, 1 cup + 2 tbsp honey, 2 tbsp bourbon and 1 tbsp + 2 tsp potato or tapioca starch.  Bring to a gentle boil and continue to whisk until all of the starch is well combined, and allow to boil for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until it has reduced by half and becomes slightly thick, like the consistency of maple syrup.  Remove from heat and allow to to cool and thicken more before using on your ham.
